Museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists’ studios and cultural centres will open their doors late into the evening welcoming people of all ages to taste and sample their cultural delights for free on the evening.
Cosmos at Castle
Our award-winning Cosmos at the Castle exhibit will be open to the public on Culture Night from 18:00 – 22:00. Send a Message to Space, play the Comet Chaser game and enjoy the beauty of the Universe at NASA’s ViewSpace.
Harmony of the Spheres created by Cork based musician Brian Leach is a musical piece incorporating a live feed of data, streamed from a radio telescope. The live signals are manipulated into playing a ten tone scale devised by splitting the octave into ten equal parts. Some of the harmonies produced are new to our ears, while others are reminiscent of Western or Pythagorean intervals. Brian will be at Blackrock Castle for Culture Night to share the creative process behind the installation. Brian is a Music and Technology student at CIT Cork School of Music
From 18:00 – 22:00 the Cork Skeptics will host “The 15 Minute Baloney Detection Kit”. Taking place every 30 minutes the audience will enjoy short presentations on skepticism, why it’s important, and how you can employ a skeptical approach to help you sniff out incorrect or suspect claims.
Do ghosts exist? Have we been visited by aliens? Is the world coming to end in 2012? Are vaccines dangerous? Was the world created 6,000 years ago? Can vitamins cure the common cold? Every day we are bombarded by strange and weird claims. How do we distinguish what is real and what is fantasy?
Star Gazing
The Cork Astronomy Club will be in the courtyard guiding visitors in stargazing at nightfall from 20:30-23:30 See the Milky Way, the Summer Triangle and a fat Moon for a last gasp of summer. Night sky observing is clear sky dependent. Astronomy soapboxes take place throughout the evening at the courtyard. Learn about Kepler while you wait!

Culture Night provide free buses to transport you to participating venues. Culture Night Buses will leave approximately every 20 minutes from the Culture Stops at City Hall starting at 19:00 with the last bus leaving Blackrock Castle at 22:15. More information HERE
