Four half-hour hands on family friendly sessions with our in-house teacher and astronomer, Frances McCarthy. Explore how we use satellite images & challenge your friends to discover your landscape in the same way that satellites image the Earth.
20:00 -21:00 | Lecture
Join Robert Hill for ‘Space in our lives’ – a family-friendly presentation that will take you out to the limits of our observable universe and show just some of the ways in which we here on Earth use space in our everyday lives.
The presentations will be a mix of live interaction and the latest in 3D technology
An insight into Robert…
The enthusiastic Dr Hill is well known to schools around Ireland and visits Cork to offer schools programmes each year at Discovery time.
Robert is the Director of the Northern Ireland Space Office
, based at the Armagh Planetarium. He has recently been nominated to serve a further term on the EURISY Foundation Council in Paris, the role of which will be to establish clearer guidance and best practice in the utilisation of satellites and space related data for the benefits of European society and economic growth. Previous achievements include but are not limited to lead consultant with the UK Yorkshire based Space Connections group, team member on the evaluation of the European Southern Observatory public outreach and educational material, member of the International Astronomical Union Executive Committee Working Group for International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA09) and the Irish Secretariat for IYA09.
