About Blackrock Castle Observatory
Blackrock Castle Observatory is a 16th century castle located about 2km from the heart of Cork city on the banks of the river Lee.
At the castle you will find:
- Cosmos at the Castle, Ireland's first interactive science exhibit
- BCO Labs, with researchers from CIT
- The Castle Bar & Trattoria
- First Quarter moon viewings where you are invited to learn how telescopes work and see the moon up close.
- Hands-on workshops exploring different themes in science and engineering
- Discover Primary Science program
Awards
Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement In The Creation of Compelling Places and Experiences, 2008
On March 8th 2008 Blackrock Castle Observatory's Cosmos at the Castle exhibition was the recipient of the TEA's Thea award in the Science Center, limited budget category. TEA is the only international non-profit association representing the world's leading creators, developers, designers and producers of compelling places and experiences.
"Recognizing excellence in the creation of compelling educational, historical and entertainment projects, the TEA's Thea Awards once again reinforce the value of experience design and themed entertainment approaches to engaging people worldwide," said TEA international board president Craig Hanna, of Thinkwell Design & Production U.S.A. as he announced the recipients of the 14th Annual Thea Awards.

Monday to Friday: 10am-5pm
Weekends: 11am-5pm (including Bank Holidays)
Please note last admission is 4pm

Students, Seniors and Children (8-14 years): €4
Family (2 Adults, 2 Children): €16
Children under 8 are free
Admission is free for members.
