Join us at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory for an Open Night during Science Week 2018. This night promises to be fascinating and fun; with everything from entertaining workshops, to engaging lectures, there will be something for all ages and interests. The lectures will feature esteemed Solar scientist Prof Robert Walsh, and Cork Skeptics will host Kevin Mitchell, Associate Professor of Genetics and Neuroscience at Trinity College Dublin.
For more hands-on educational fun, there will be a Gravity Well to show how space is warped by large objects like planets. Test your spatial awareness (and your patience) with our Soma cube (a painfully tricky 3D puzzle), and jazz up your shadow for a colourful selfie with our Light Wall.
Cork Astronomy Club will be giving demonstrations on Stellarium, a free software that helps you to explore the night sky, before taking to the courtyard to show you the wonders of the heavens first hand*.
All this plus more educational and interactive exhibits await you at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory. There’s a scientist in all of us, so come let yours out!
*Stargazing, as always, will be weather dependent.
