Space Camp 2019

Space Camp – Training kids to be Astronauts since 2007

Our 12th annual summer Space Camp is taking place over the following dates:

Week 1: July 8-12   |    9:30 – 12:30   |   6-8 years (Unfortunately 5-year-olds cannot attend – and all children must have completed Junior Infants)

Week 2: July 22-26  |    9:30 – 12:30    |   9-12 years

Space Campers will take a journey down to another planet with our Eggstronauts and see what it takes to survive the fall. They’ll put their scientific skills to the test, exploring what life might need and how we find it.

The budding astronauts will have a blast! building and launching their own rockets and will learn about the possible alien life that those rockets could find!  We’ll also take a look at our own solar system and how the planets orbit and move together around the Sun.

Here is a daily breakdown of our Space Camp activities from 2018 – watch this space to see what new ideas we come up with for 2019!!

Day 1: Eggstronauts

Landing on alien worlds is one of the biggest challenges of space exploration and in this workshop the Space Campers will find out why. Each lander will try to slow the Eggstronauts to safety. They might not all make it down in one piece, but every egg cracked is a lesson learned.

Day 2: Alien Life

After we land on an alien world, what might we find there? The movies offer many suggestions, but if we do find aliens in space, they may be a bit slimier than we imagine . . .

Day 3: Mixtures

Water is one of the most important ingredients for life, but finding it and figuring out what’s in it can be tricky. Even here on Earth there are mixtures that seem to defy physics.

Day 4: The Solar System

Our planet is joined by many others in it’s orbit around the Sun. But where exactly are these other planets, and how far away are they? This workshop will dig into the vastness of space around us.

Day 5: Rockets

Back to Earth for the last day of Space Camp as we get ready to blast off. Make a variety of rocket models before launching up, up and away!
