Transit of Mercury

On November 11th, Mercury will pass between us and the Sun. During this transit the planet will appear as a dark spot against the Sun. Using our special solar scopes at The Observatory you will be able to see this fascinating phenomenon for yourself!

Mercury can be one of the more difficult planets to observe, so this really is a rare opportunity. We hope you’ll join us for this exciting live astronomy event. Participation is free!

An excellent start to Science Week 2019.

*Warning. This activity is ONLY safe to do using our solar scopes. Staring at the Sun unprotected for even brief periods can lead to irreversible eye damage. NEVER STARE DIRECTLY AT THE SUN WITHOUT SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT AND EXPERT SUPERVISION.

Astronomy, as always, is weather dependent
